CR Revered - Chairman Frank Luna

Name: Frank Luna

Federation: NJ College Republicans

Federation Website: http://www.njcr.org/

School/Year: Graduate of The Richard Stockton College of NJ

Major/Minor: Political Science

Who do you support for President in 2008 and why? To early to say...

Why did you get involved in College Republicans? I was upset with constantly being told I was wrong by liberal professors and I found a group that addressed some of the issues I was interested in...THE CRs.

What is the greatest challenge for a College Republican leader? I think the biggest challenge is raising money. There are so many groups trying to raise money across the country and many are more established than the CRs. Specifically in NJ, the CRs have not made enough of a name for themselves to be considered worthy of independent donations (which is something that WILL change during my tenure as Chairman).

Where do you see the CRNC in 2 years? Hopefully giving more money to state federations. This will enable them to address the fundraising issue mentioned above.

What's your greatest achievement in College Republicans? I get most excited about starting new chapters at schools who previously had none. Any time you can start a new chapter, conservative ideas are spread to that many more people.

What are you planning for your state to do during the 2006 campaign season? Improving communication between NJCRs and NJGOP as well as doing a ton of grassroots campaigning to place a Republican from NJ in the US Senate. I am just going to roll up my sleeves and get to work...I am sure that will include a ton of phone calls and doors to knock on, but no one is bigger than the cause and I am prepared to do whatever necessary.

I met Frank for the first time about a month ago and the thing I like most about him is that he tells it straight and seems to be an independent thinker with integrity.

We need more of that in this organization on both sides of the "aisle".

One of the "brothers" is no one other than Nate Walton.

The Gracchi were liberals in the traditional sense: i.e. lovers of freedom and individualism. Today liberalism means something quite different, so don't try to label brothersgracchi unfairly.

A QUESTION TO ALL 'OPPOSITION' LEADERS:

Why is former Michael Davidson lawyer, and opposition chief advisor Soren Dayton so closely connected with the group "Republican Youth Majority"?

Dayton, along with a Washington consultant Roman Buhler recently founded this new group. It's slogan is Pro-Choice, Pro-Environment. The group is closely allied with "Republicans for choice", and regularly has members of "Republicans for Choice" speak at its weekly meetings at Bullfeathers restaurant in Washington D.C. The organization is also closely aligned with the Log Cabin Republicans and other groups opposed to defining marriage as between a man and a woman.

Dayton, as stated above, helped to found this organization, and regularly appears at its meetings and office. He is a close friend of Buhler, and has tried to use his position in the Young Republicans to bring new members into RYM.

Dayton is known in the College Republican world as one of Michael Davidson's chief advisors. He was one of several who barged into CRNC offices last year with a video camera in the middle of the night while CRNC staff were busily preparing for the 2005 convention. He could also be seen almost everywhere at the convention with video camera in hand, often times coming within six inches of the faces of the CRNC staff with his camera, supposedly to keep an eye out for any irregularities.

Today, Dayton is a top advisor to the opposition. He is is constant communication with members of the opposition and regularly appears on the opposition's conference calls.

What sets Dayton apart from most CR's (one state chair from FL. excepted) is that he's in his late thirties. He hasn't been in college for many years. So why does Mr. Dayton have such a keen interest in the activities of the College Republicans? Many have speculated that he does it to give his life some meaning. It seems more likely that he has more sinister purposes.

When Michael Davidson decided to run for national chairman, he was already closely aligned with GenNext, another pro-choice, pro-environment, anti traditional marriage group. Dayton served Davidson's campaign with a level of fervor rarely seen in the even the most bitter of partisans, despite his long detachment from college life.

Is it any coincidence that Dayton chose the candidate percieved as more liberal in the CRNC elections? Soren Dayton is a man with an agenda. It is an agenda far away from that of most CR's, and yet he is one of the chief drivers of a group that says it has the majority of state chairs behind it.

So the opposition needs to evaluate the situation. Is Soren Dayton as committed to the opposition cause as he is because he cares oh-so-much about an organization that is unabashedly Conservative? Or does he care oh-so-much about our Conservative organization because he wants to make it more liberal?

All of these questions aside, why is Dayton helping to create a counter organization to the CR's by the name of "Republican Youth Majority" when he supposedly wants to see CR's succeed so badly. All CR's should instinctively distrust all individuals who stand with Soren Dayton.

I love how the opposition comes up with the phrase "Your CRNC" meaning that it belongs to grassroots CR's, beats the phrase into the seventh center of hell, and then proceeds to hand our organization over to every stray comer willing to give them a hand, no matter their motivations.

If the opposition extremists had their way, the CRNC would be led by unelected outsiders like Soren Dayton and Saul Anuzis. I'd like to remind the opposition extremists of their own words: This is OUR CRNC.

It's fair for guys like Morton to be involved with CRs until old age, but it's wrong if someone is involved in their late 30s. What's the difference? One is pro-Establishment, the other is pro-opposition.

If you believed the CRs are a great youth organization - and we are - then it makes perfect sense and even promotes your cause when you to stay engaged beyond just your college years.

9:31 PM, August 06, 2006

No, Patlan, it is not Michael Patlan's CRNC. If it were, you guys have not done much with it, really.

but it's wrong if someone is involved in their late 30s. What's the difference?

The difference between these two is clear. Morton Blackwell is an icon of the Conservative movement. LI might be falling apart at the seams, but there is no doubt that the organization has done a great deal for CR's, and there is no doubt that its leader is a brilliant man politically, with a long record of accomplishment on behalf of our ideals.

Soren Dayton on the other hand is a no talent loser who is pro choice and pro gay marriage. He has never accomplished anything for CR's. He has only sought to wreck havoc on the organization. Big difference my brutha'.

9:38 PM, August 06, 2006

Supporting Davidson isn't the equivalent of trying to wreak havoc on the CRs, you jerk. LI isn't falling apart at the seams either.

9:53 PM, August 06, 2006
Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's OUTRAGEOUS that Team Gourley can't acknowledge that Davidson is a hardcore conservative activist. When they continue to spit on the record of one of the best activists in this country, it's no surprise they can't win over the opposition. No one wants to put up with it anymore.

9:57 PM, August 06, 2006
Anonymous Anonymous said...

No one said definitively that Davidson was a liberal. However, the undeniable fact is that he runs a liberal Republican PAC, that is openly pro-choice. His personal beliefs aside, he is doing more for the liberal wing of the party than the Conservative wing.

That aside, defending Michael Davidson's ideology doesn't erase the fact that the opposition is using pro-choice, pro-gay rights activists like Soren Dayton to accomplish their ends. Let's not get stuck on side issues. That is the main concern, and the opposition should answer for it.

10:51 PM, August 06, 2006

Agreed completely. Soren Dayton's association with Michael Davidson was perfectly acceptable. His reasons for continued involvment are troublesome however. Why does he help found a counter to the CRNC that is pro-choice and pro gay-rights and then get involved in CR's on the opposition side? This guy's got an agenda.

LI sadly is falling apart at the seams. It spends all its time and money trying to hire field reps. that don't end up accomplishing anything in the field. Its training is woefully outdated, and its staff is increasingly unprofessional. Nonetheless, it has been a great organization, and it could be again.

Please people don't try to defend Soren Dayton by linking him to Michael Davidson. Davidson is a great man and a great activist. Dayton is a loser who spends his time weasling into organizations to get his agenda through.

"No one said definitively that Davidson was a liberal. However, the undeniable fact is that he runs a liberal Republican PAC, that is openly pro-choice. His personal beliefs aside, he is doing more for the liberal wing of the party than the Conservative wing."

He needed a job that could pay him decent money and would help him grow his connections in California. Gen-next does that for him, and the organization has shifted more conservative since he arrived. Consider Gen-next's support of the California CRs.

That's a substantial win for conservatives. But you don't care about that, do you? It's more important for you to smear Davidson's reputation. It's what the CRNC Establishment does.

Gen-next has given substantial financial support to CCR. Substantial. They are a right of center organization, this is a FACT.

Well, if you need money, who cares about your beliefs!?!?! What character and moral fortitude this Davidson fellow must have!

Gen-next is a conservative organization. The Establishment is just jealous. Davidson is making a difference, while Gourley's administration has been a complete and total failure.

Gen-Next supports Tom McClintock, a pro-life conservative who supports traditional marriage:

Among all voters, Democrat and Republican, no public official in the state of California is more favorably approved than State Senator Tom McClintock, candidate for Lieutenant Governor. He is known by 53 percent of California voters and has an almost 2-to-1 favorability rating, more than any other public official in California. Whether one agrees or disagrees with him, he's earned a reputation for articulating his political philosophy and approach to important issues that affect the next generation. As one of the most unique public officials, his campaign is going to be one of the most competitive.

Gen-Next has supported the Fight for Freedom in Iraq:

Article: By liberating Iraq, the U.S. set the stage for the destruction of Hezbollah.
Posted: Wednesday July 26, 2006 - 10:48 AM
Here are some excerpts of the article:
"The U.S. invasion of Iraq has so shaken and stirred the Middle East that some exceptionally strange things are happening. More importantly, these things unequivocally favor the U.S. in influencing the outcome of the Israeli-Hezbollah War now taking place in Lebanon...

Gen-Next talks about the great news in the U.S. economy and wants to get the word out:

Economy Zips Ahead at a 5.6 Percent Pace
Posted: Thursday June 29, 2006 - 8:36 AM
The economy continues to soar; yet there's not much news coverage of it, unfortunately. And this progress is despite high energy prices, as as result of enhanced global consumption, and a moderate housing market. Hopefully Bush's new Treasury Secretary, Henry Paulsen will fire it up.

Lastly and most to the point, Gen-Next will tell you themselves: they are right of center. This is not up for debate. These are all from Gen-Next's website. You can see for yourself at gen-next.org.

This is a typical Patlan-Gourley smear campaign. People can see past it by doing some simple research on their own.

This is a great candidate and Gen-Next is talking about his campaign and getting people involved in it. It's a fact. You can't dispute it. The Gourley goons are just making up their usual smear attacks on their opponents. That's how they operate!

Read up on Gen-Next yourselves. Don't let the Gourley people tell you this is anything less than a conservative-leaning organization.

12:00 AM, August 07, 2006

There is no doubt that GenNext is 'right of center'. So is Michael Bloomberg for Christ's sake. That doesn't change the fact that the organization is pro-choice. I praise the work it does on behalf of McClintock and GOP candidates. I praise Michael Davidson for running it well. That doesn't change the fact that it is more liberal those most Conservatives.

And one thing definitely doesn't change: The opposition is being aided by people who are openly liberal-Republican.

Everyone needs to get their heads out of their asses and start working hard. Would Davidson have been seen as a success if Schwarzenegger had lost to Bustamante?

Will Miccarelli still be seen as a success if Santorum doesn't win?

The problem with Frank Luna's interview is that if this kid's logic holds up, then you must be a failure if the Democrats win the election during your chairmanship. That is a very, very bad standard to hold a College Republican to. Hoplin kicked ass. You send 56 full time field reps all over this country, you're the man.

9:34 PM, August 09, 2006
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I don't even think that was implied in the interview he gave. I think it would be silly for him to say that with the state of the Republican Party in NJ.

I think some of the most successful CRs come from Blue States because they understand the adversity and hardships that come with being a loud conservative voice in a such volatile situations. Davidson and Nick Miccarelli would have been successful regardless of if the aforementioned win their elections because of their individual work ethic and ability to lead.

I don't think Frank can be mentioned in the same breath as Michael and Nick but he may be on his way...only time will tell.

OPPOSITION LIGHT WEIGHT RESIGNS

In what can only be seen as a blow to the few remaining opposition insurgents, Hugh Derek Hall has quit as the Chairman of the Kentucky Federation mere weeks before the semester begins.

Hugh was hired to work on a local campaign. In the spirit of the opposition, he chose to do what is best for his own career rather than help the college republicans who elected him prepare for the election season ahead.

Look for Hall in the coming days to be announced as the "National Committeeman" from Kentucky, so that he can further serve his political aspirations without ever having to work for the Kentucky College Republicans.
